Yesterday Sonia helped Raja weed the garden when we got home from work and creche. She enjoys being outdoors and, in particular, digging in the dirt.
She is beginning to speak in full sentences now, although usually bypassing the helping verbs. Her vocabulary is growing in leaps and bounds and surprises me nearly every day with a new word. For some reason the word "can't" she says with a British accent. It's cute.
She likes to joke about having a cut that needs kissing or that she or daddy is crying, followed by a giggle. She likes to play in her crib before going to bed as she finds it fun to flop around. As she gets more tired, she pretends she is sleeping (but doesn't realize yet that closing her eyes would help the play acting) and wants us to play along by saying "Shhh, Sonia is sleeping"--she then sits up starts to giggle.
She has a lot of friends at school and talks about them a lot at home. Some she calls by their name, others by their title "older sister", "older brother" in Sinhala.
It is Sinhala and Tamil New Year, so lots of fire crackers going off. Amazingly (given the volume), Sonia sleeps through it. Today at noon there were a lot of fire crackers. We went to the porch on the roof to watch. Not much to see but smoke but it was interesting for Sonia. The creche is closed this week, so Sonia will stay at her friend Gaelle's house during part of the day.
